File selection vs. archive size
The size reported by your file selection (the total that appears on the Backup tab of the CrashPlan app) and the size of your CrashPlan archive can be different. This difference is normal and is due to how CrashPlan stores your data and your frequency and version settings.
CrashPlan stores your data in a compressed and de-duplicated format. This can cause the size of the archive to be less than the size of the file selection.
CrashPlan also tracks multiple versions of each file, and it backs up changes over time. Retaining a large number of file versions increases the size of your backup archive. To decrease the size of your backup archive, modify your version retention settings to retain fewer versions of your files and deselect files from your backup selection.
The 5 TB limit for cloud backups to be transferred applies to your backup archive size, not your file selection. Learn how to reduce the size of your CrashPlan archive.
